Acropolis Sandanski

The pavilion “Acropolis” is located just above the lake and provides a panoramic view of the entire city, which ranks it among the favorite sights in Sandanski

To get to the Acropolis there are two options – to climb directly on the steep slope on the side of the tennis courts or on the panoramic path starting near the hotel “Perun”. 

If you choose the path, there is an option to continue the walk in a wooded area, which will take you to the hotel “Medite” in the village of Polenitsa, which is located at a 15 minutes walk from Sandanski.

Sandanski Basilica

Immerse yourself in history by visiting this beautifully preserved basilica dating back to the 4th-5th centuries.

Be sure to seek the help of an employee of the local archeological museum, who will be happy to introduce you to the history of the ancient city of Particopolis, where the basilica was the largest building.

After the basilica, you can visit the museum itself, where many small and interesting ancient coins, vessels and ornaments are stored.

Popina Laka Waterfall

Located at the foot of Pirin, in the area of Popina Luka, the waterfall is a great tourist attraction.

Popina Laka is one of the favorite destinations of the locals to escape the summer heat. If you dare you can try to swim in the cold waters of the mountain river.

After visiting the waterfall, which is located next to the road, you can relax in the restaurant next to the waterfall, take a walk in nature or just stretch a blanket on the meadow next to the Pirin hut.

City Park Sandanski

The city park is the heart of the town of Sandanski.

You have not seen anything from Sandanski if you have not taken a walk in the park “Sveti Vrach”. Famous for its beauty, the park is a home to a huge variety of flowers and trees, some of which are centenarians.

The park itself has many fountains, benches, playgrounds,  sculptures, swimming pools and a beautiful water lake with swans. In the park you can also visit a cage for pheasants and peacocks, which will impress you with their colourful beauty.

Zlatolist - church of St. George

Explore the church where the famous healer and prophetess, Prepodobna Stoyna, often mentioned as the forerunner of Baba Vanga, lived.

In the yard of the small church grows a 1300-year-old plane tree, to which a swing is attached. Legend says that whoever swings on the swing will enjoy good health.

In front of the church entrance you can purchase handmade ornaments, as well as homemade wine, honey and jam.

Sandanski mini Zoo

One of the newest additions to the fun activities of the town of Sandanski.

From 2017, residents and guests of the town of Sandanski can enjoy their newest animal friends. Deer, mouflon and mini kangaroo coexist in a specially built area with natural nature.

The hosts are extremely friendly and love the company.

Please remember not to feed the animals as this could seriously harm them.

Melnik

Set aside an entire afternoon to feel the authenticity of this heavenly place. Nestled among the Melnik pyramids, Melnik is the smallest Bulgarian town. Walking along the cobbled streets, you will feel the age of this city. Be sure to visit the Kordupulov House to see the way of life of our ancestors. At the end of your walk, you should definitely try the local wine in one of the many cellars.

For lovers of hiking, there is an opportunity to reach Rozhen Monastery or Zlatolist on hiking trails.

Rozhen monastеry

The “Rozhdestvo Bogorodichno” Monastery, known as the Rozhen Monastery, is believed to have been built in the 13th century.

The monastery is one of the many symbols of the indomitable Bulgarian spirit. Burned down during the Ottoman rule, the monastery is today in excellent condition and offers everyone peace and tranquility.

After a tour of this tourist attraction, be sure to stay in one of the restaurants in the village of Rozhen to enjoy traditional cuisine.

Church of St. Petka, Rupite

The temple is next to the house where the world-famous prophetess Baba Vanga received visitors.

Surrounded by hot springs, the area around the temple and the house of the prophetess are extremely well maintained and suitable for walking and relaxing. Recharge with the incredible energy that fills this area.

Samuilova Krepost

Visit this medieval fortress, located between the mountains Belasitsa and Ograzhden.

Used to defend the ancient Bulgarian lands, the fortress was built on an ancient village and is only part of a complex ancient defense system.
